"Today I lost my biggest fan," Jimmy Fallon wrote in a statement shared with USA TODAY.
“Jimmy Fallon’s mother, Gloria, died peacefully on Saturday," Fallon's spokeswoman, Claire Mercuri, confirmed in a separate statement sent Sunday to USA TODAY. "Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC. Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time.”
Fallon, 43, had canceled his Tonight Show taping Friday for "a private Fallon family matter." His mother died the next day.
Fans and friends tweeted their condolences to Fallon over the weekend, including Stephen Colbert, who wrote, "Mom is the first audience and the best. Remembering Jimmy Fallon and his family in our prayers today."
