Brief power outage sends gates into darkness at Atlanta airport

Officials said the lights are on again and there was never any interruption to flight operation.
ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 10: The security lines (background) remain empty as delayed passengers find places to sit around Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after a snow storm on January 10, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA — Officials say a limited power outage flickered at Atlanta's airport briefly on Sunday.

According to a Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport spokesman, the airport experienced a brief outage around 9:20 p.m. between gates D9 and 12.

Officials said the lights are on again and there was never any interruption to flight operation.

Airport crews are now investigating a cause.

While this most recent outage was brief, it will likely recall to mind the massive outage back in December 2017. Just days before the busy holiday season, a fire burned through both the main and back-up power supply, forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights and sending ripple cancellations across the country. The interruption caused millions in losses.
