VIDEO: 3 bystanders shot during shootout at busy DeKalb County gas station; suspect arrested

Two were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and the third had a graze wound, police said.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 34-year-old man is now behind bars after three people were shot during a shocking shootout caught on video in the parking lot of a DeKalb County gas station Tuesday, police said.

On Wednesday, police identified one of the suspects as Darius Morris, who was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Jail records show that Morris was out on bond after allegedly being involved in a 2020 murder.

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the shooting happened in the 2000 block of Candler Road before 8:30 p.m. When officers got to the area, they found a 32-year-old and a 44-year-old man with gunshot wounds who were taken to the hospital. Police said they had non life-threatening injuries. A third person was a 39-year-old man who had a graze wound and did not need to go to the hospital.

11Alive obtained chaotic gas station surveillance footage from the scene that showed an explosive round of shots being fired at the front of the store.

Multiple men can be seen firing shots outside of a car in the video while other cars in the lot scurry away from the scene and people crouched outside the convenience store.

More footage captured bystanders inside the store ducking down as soon as they heard the shots; one man appeared to be injured.

Patrice Campbell goes to the gas station frequently, where she said it has normally been safe.

"This is my store. I come here every day; please, everybody, put the guns down," she said. "I have never seen any trouble. I have to come here and make sure everyone is okay."

DKPD said that early information shows two groups of people shot at each other in the parking lot. However, none of the three victims appeared to have had any connection to the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation, according to police. Authorities are still looking for the other suspects involved in the incident.
