New video shows moments gunfire sends people running before 3-year-old grazed by bullet in Atlanta, police say

Atlanta police responded shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday.

ATLANTA — A 3-year-old was grazed by a bullet near a park in Atlanta on Easter Sunday. Now, police are releasing new video in the hopes that it helps catch the person or people who fired the shots.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person shot near Vine Street NW and Thurmond Street NW around Rodney Cook Sr. Park shortly after 6 p.m. on March 31. This is in the Vine City neighborhood on the western side of Atlanta.

When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old who had a graze wound. The child was sent to the hospital and was expected to survive as the 3-year-old was alert and breathing, police said.

Investigators with the aggravated assault unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances.

Just days after the shooting, police released new video in the hopes that it will help people come forward with information to help police with their investigation. It shows the moment that gunfire sent people running for cover after police said an argument on the basketball court led up to the shooting.

Right now, there is a $2,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Tips can be submitted anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at (404) 577-TIPS (8477) and online at www.StopCrimeAtl.org.

The investigation is ongoing.
