School staffer charged with trafficking after house search uncovers heroin, handguns

Christopher Dawson and Angel Nathan have both been charged with drug trafficking.

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A Paulding County couple was arrested and charged with trafficking last month after deputies discovered heroin, marijuana and handguns during a traffic stop and later home search, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said.

Christopher Dawson and Angel Nathan, both 32, were charged with heroin trafficking, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The Cobb County School District confirmed to 11Alive that Nathan was staffed by the district.

“We learned a previous staff member was arrested by an outside agency on charges unrelated to school," the district said in a statement. "The staff member has not reported to work since and is no longer employed by Cobb Schools."

The sheriff's office said the couple, who live together in Douglasville, were first stopped by a deputy on Oct. 21. The deputy discovered "some marijuana and a handgun" during the traffic stop, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said a subsequent search of the couple's home after a search warrant was obtained uncovered a "large amount of heroin, marijuana and two more handguns."

The narcotics were said to be in the couple's master bedroom.

The sheriff's office said that, in all, it recovered two ounces of heroin and four pounds of marijuana, as well as the three handguns.

Dawson and Nathan were said to have both bonded out of the Paulding County Jail and now await trial.
