Man arrested in deadly Gainesville Motel 6 shooting, police say

He was booked into the Hall County Sheriff's Office without bond, according to jail records.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A man wanted for a deadly Motel 6 shooting in Gainesville was arrested on Saturday, according to police. 

Corey Maurice Rucker, 47, now faces several charges, including murder, aggravated assault and theft, according to the Gainesville Police Department. He was booked into the Hall County Sheriff's Office without bond, according to jail records. 

“We would like to thank our local, state, and federal partners who worked tirelessly through the night to apprehend this violent suspect," Jay Parrish, Chief of the Gainesville Police Department, said. 

The shooting happened on Friday around 2:30 p.m. Police received calls to a Motel 6 on Monroe Drive where a man, later identified as 34-year-old Destyn Rashad Alexander, was found shot in his chest. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where authorities said he later died. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Alexander, and it is our hope that this arrest will help bring them a sense of closure as they mourn the loss of their loved one," Parrish said. 

Police have not said what led up to the shooting.
