Man arrested after deadly December shooting at Atlanta apartment complex, police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating after one person was shot and killed at a southeast Atlanta apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called out to 1177 Constitution Rd. SE on Dec. 28, the address of Constitution Hill Apartments, in reference to a person shot. When officers arrived, they found 53-year-old James Leslie dead from a gunshot wound.

The apartment complex is just off Moreland Avenue SE in the Leila Valley neighborhood.

On Jan. 10, investigators with the Atlanta Police Department's Fugitive Unit, with the help of Gainesville Police and Hall County Sheriff's Office, arrested 47-year-old Anthony Hightower. He faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He was booked into the Hall County Jail, where he will later be extradited into the Fulton County Jail, Atlanta Police said.

It's unclear at this time what led up to the shooting as details remain limited. 11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene and saw crime tape as several officers investigated on scene.
