DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office arrested one of its own deputies after she allegedly had sex with an inmate inside the jail, according to warrants obtained by 11Alive.
According to the sheriff's office, 26-year-old Joann Marks was taken into custody at the DeKalb County jail on charges of violation of oath of office by a public officer and sexual contact by an employee or agent (first degree). Both of the charges are felonies.
Warrants detailed they obtained probable cause for an arrest after Marks admitted to having sex with the inmate after she had escorted him to the medical unit holding area inside the DeKalb County Jail.
Marks, who had been with the sheriff's office since 2021, has been terminated from her position. She was assigned to jail operations, the sheriff's office said.
