Duluth Police arrest driver 17 hours after fatal hit-and-run

A 45-year-old is now accused of killing the pedestrian.

DULUTH, Ga. — Seventeen hours after a fatal hit-and-run killed a 26-year-old man, Duluth Police Department detectives have made an arrest.

Police said the crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. Monday. Officers were called after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at Prince Charles Drive. That's where they found Cassius Franswah, 26, lying in the roadway. Despite performing CPR and providing medical attention until paramedics arrived, Franswah died at a nearby hospital.

Evidence collected from the scene helped officers determine a Nissan Sentra was involved. With DPD's Real-Time Crime Center camera footage, investigators said they were able to track the vehicle to an apartment parking lot off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

The suspect's vehicle was badly damaged in the front, which was consistent with evidence collected from the crash scene, police said. Officers were able to connect a 45-year-old man to the case.

He is now accused of homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene, hit and run resulting in death and driving without a valid license.
