HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A Houston man was sentenced to life in prison for luring and raping a 15-year-old boy in 2022, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office

This won't be Scottie Dewayne Nelson's first time behind bars. In 2010, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a 6-year-old boy.

On Sept. 11. 2022, Nelson was sitting on the porch outside his home in north Houston when the 15-year-old walked by. The DA's office said Nelson called the boy over to talk to him and then lured him into his home.

The teenager testified that once they were inside, Nelson pulled out a gun and forced him to have sex. The teen said he also threatened violence if he told anybody what happened.

When the teen made it home, his mother called police. Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to investigate and later arrested Nelson.

Witnesses, including Nelson's girlfriend, confirmed details the 15-year-old knew about Nelson's bedroom. A medical examination and DNA evidence also confirmed the teen's story.

Nelson was prosecuted in a four-day trial and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“This is every parent’s worst nightmare — a guy down the street calls out to a kid on the street, and it all goes terribly wrong,” Assistant District Attorney Timothy Goodwin said. “This defendant preyed on this young boy — threatened him with violence — and now he will die in prison.”

“It was important that we got justice for the victim in this case and, just as importantly, we are keeping this repeat offender from hurting anyone else ever again,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. “We all have to be vigilant because this case shows there are sexual predators who walk among us and they can pull a gun on anyone anywhere.”

The DA's Office said Nelson got a plea deal in the 2010 case when Pat Lykos was district attorney. The prosecutor in that case is no longer there so they couldn't comment on why the deal was offered.
