Third murder suspect arrested in 2023 alleged home invasion attempt, DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A third arrest has been made in the murder of a Lithonia man during an alleged home invasion attempt last year, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office

Investigators were able to find Stephan Stewart, 26, on April 17 and took him into custody, according to a release. A grand jury arrest warrant charges Stewart with murder, aggravated assault, burglary in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender probationer. 

The warrants accuse Stewart of being involved in a shootout with several other people at a Parc Lorraine apartment complex in Lithonia on March 16, 2023. The shooting resulted in the death of 30-year-old Michael McBride, according to a release. 

Stewart is being held at the DeKalb County Jail without bond, the sheriff's office said.

Two other suspects also remain in custody at the DeKalb County Jail without bond from previous arrests connected to this incident, the sheriff's office said. 

Atlanta residents Alphonson Pitts, 33, and Deon Davis, 37, were arrested in March 2024 and November 2023, respectively, according to the sheriff's office.

Pitts and Davis are both charged with murder and aggravated assault after allegedly shooting firearms in the parking lot and attempting to enter an apartment by kicking down the front door.
