1-year-old girl presumably died in hot car, sheriff's office says. Now her mom is facing charges.

Deputies arrived at Highway 162 and Rocky Plains Road for a cardiac arrest call, where they found the child.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A 29-year-old mother has been booked into jail, accused in the death of her 1-year-old daughter.

Newton County deputies were called to help the child Tuesday. They arrived at Highway 162 and Rocky Plains Road for a cardiac arrest call, sheriff's office records show, and that's when deputies came across the child.

Fire officials and deputies were working to provide life-saving care to the toddler, who was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, records show. The sheriff's office said Thursday the girl was presumably left in a hot car and succumbed to heat exhaustion, launching a death investigation.

Deputies said Arie Osbey was booked Thursday night. Jail records show she is accused of making false statements and second-degree murder.

Authorities did not offer any other details as they continue to investigate.
