Child dead, 4 others hurt in mass shooting at popular Texas flea market, police say

Authorities said five people were shot at the Cole's Antique Village & Flea Market on Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, the shooter hadn't been taken into custody.

PEARLAND, Texas — Several people were shot, including a child who died, at a popular Houston-area flea market on Sunday, according to Pearland Police Department officials.

Authorities said five people were shot at the Cole's Antique Village & Flea Market off Highway 35 just south of the Beltway. Pearland PD Public Information Officer Chad Rogers said they got the first 911 call about the shooting just after 5:30 p.m.

Rogers said an argument broke out between two people and shots were fired. Investigators aren't sure if one or both of the people involved in the argument had guns and fired shots. Police said they didn't think it was a targeted attack and was an isolated incident between the people involved in the argument.

Police said the two children and three adults who were shot were innocent bystanders. They were taken to hospitals for treatment. A 10-year-old boy was taken to Memorial Herman Southeast but died, police said.

As for the other victims, police said a 14-year-old female was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is stable, a 37-year-old man was taken to UTMB Clear Lake and was stable, a 16-year-old male was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and was in surgery, and an 18-year-old male was taken to UTMB Clear Lake and is stable.

No one has been taken into custody. It's unknown if the police know the identities of the people who were involved in the argument that led to the shooting. They did say they believe two or three people fired shots, but are still talking to witnesses.

Police asked the public to come forward with information. They told anyone with information about the shooting to call 281-997-5828. Those who provide tips have the option to remain anonymous.
