17-year-old girl dies after being shot several times at home near southwest Atlanta park: APD

There were others home at the time, police said.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are currently investigating a shooting that took the life of a 17-year-old girl at a home in southwest Atlanta on Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to a house off Lynnhaven Drive Southwest just after 4 p.m. in the city's Capitol View Manor neighborhood, near Emma Millican Park. It's minutes from Atlanta Technical College.

When they arrived, they said they found the girl, Sade Brooks, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. There were others home at the time. It is believed that the teen lived there.

Here's what Homicide Commander Germaine Dearlove said about the moments leading up to the shooting.

"We believe it's an escalating dispute with a known associate," Dearlove said. "We believe that there was an incident inside the residence or right outside of it that led to the shooting, a shooting event. As I stated, we're right now canvassing for witnesses and working the crime scene to identify the suspect."

She was rushed to Grady Hospital where she died from her injuries.

No arrests have been confirmed. Dearlove said they're still looking for the man who fired the deadly shots.
