Woman in custody after dragging officer, barricading inside of Gwinnett home with her 4 children: police

Police said the woman was taken into custody "without incident" Friday evening.

GRAYSON, Ga. — A woman has been taken into custody following a SWAT standoff at a home in a Gwinnett County neighborhood Friday afternoon where police said she barricaded herself inside a home with her four children.

Sgt. Michele Pihera with the Gwinett County Police Department said the situation began when officers were called out to a shots fired call earlier in the day outside of a Tractor Supply Co. in Gwinnett County. Police said the altercation was between a man and a woman -- but nobody was hurt after the gunfire.

Officers said they saw a man running away and were able to detain him, but a woman took off in a white car away from police. Pihera said the woman later came back to the scene in a different car. That's when officers noticed her and tried to take her into custody.

Pihera said an officer tried to jump into the car through the passenger's side door to try to pull her out and she was Tased multiple times. However, Pihera said the 39-year-old woman sped off, dragging the officer a short way. Pihera said the officer who was dragged was not hurt.

Police said the woman then barricaded herself inside a home along Winding Down Way in a neighborhood in Grayson with her four children -- who Pihera described as three minors and one young adult. Pihera said that the woman was armed and that she "made threats to shoot officers."

Pihera said it's likely the children were already at the home when the woman got back to the house.

In an evening press conference just after 6 p.m., Pihera said the woman walked out of the front door and was arrested "without incident." She was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons due to being Tased hours beforehand, according to police.

Pihera said that the father showed up at the house and now has custody of the four children.

The woman will face criminal charges but the extent of those aren't known yet, police said. The man involved in the shots fired call at the Tractor Supply Co. will not face any charges, according to Pihera.
