Deputies searching for suspect in alleged child abduction attempt

Police said the man may have been wearing a wig as a disguise and threatened that he would come back for the young girl he failed to take.

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. -- Deputies are scouring the area in search of a man who allegedly attempted to kidnap a young girl.

The incident was reported on Aug. 5 on Reed Road in rural Troup County. Based on preliminary reports, a child was crossing the road when a white man wearing what appeared to be a wig drove up, got out of his car and attempted to grab the lower portion of her leg.

The child was able to get away but fell a short distance away. She then screamed alerting nearby relatives. The man then sped away but not before allegedly telling the girl that he would come back for her.

Investigators believe he was later spotted in the parking lot of the fire station also on Reed Road in what was described as a white shirt, white pants, and black boots. His getaway vehicle was also described as a white four-door car though the make and model were not known.

The child was also able to provide a basic description of the suspect – a man in a wig with “older looking skin” who had no facial hair and may have been attempting to disguise himself as a woman.

Whether real or fake, his hair was brown and down to his ears, the child said.

Police are hoping anyone with information on this suspect will call Troup County Sheriff’s Office investigators at 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000. However, anyone who spots something suspicious or a child who may be in danger should call 911 immediately.
