MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Cobb County School District confirmed late Thursday that longtime 11Alive education reporter Donna Lowry will serve as the director of communications for the system.

Lowry joins the Cobb County School District after 29 years at 11Alive News where the station billed her as "the state's only full-time education reporter."

In addition to covering education news, she created and produced the Emmy Award-winning Class Act segments honoring metro Atlanta teachers, as well as Class Notes, which offered a daily glimpse into classrooms.

Lowry has a Bachelor of Arts in mass communications and administration and management from Chatham University and a Masters of Science in journalism from Northwestern University.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to share stories of academic excellence, education innovation and everyday heroes in Cobb County Schools,” Lowry said.

Watson expands her leadership role within the Cobb County School District after 19 years as an educator.
