Marty Krofft, creator of iconic children's TV shows, has died

Krofft is well-known for being the co-creator, along with his brother Sid, of several fantastical children's shows over a four-decade-plus run.

LOS ANGELES — Marty Krofft, the creator of numerous iconic children's TV shows, has died at the age of 86, according to reports by the Los Angeles Times and Associated Press.

Krofft is well-known for being the co-creator, along with his brother Sid (Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures), of fantastical children's shows such as "Land of the Lost," “H.R. Pufnstuf," and “The Banana Splits Adventure Hour."

He and his brother were also known for changing the children's TV landscape by introducing kids' shows that prominently featured dolls and puppets. The two are also known for their show "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" and "Mut and Stuff," their return to Nickelodeon.

Krofft died of kidney failure while in Los Angeles on Saturday, his publicist told The New York Times.

The brothers' run started in 1969 and ran through 2015. Additionally, the two are known for primetime variety shows, including Donny & Marie, the Brady Bunch Variety Hour, and Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters.

The two were most recently in Atlanta when they attended Dragon Con 2023.
