ATLANTA -- Former Atlanta Mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young is recovering after falling ill last month.
11Alive spoke to sources close Young and said he has been out of the hospital and continues to improve.
The Civil Rights icon was expected to speak at Fisk University's Baccalaureate Service on Sunday, May 6, but never made it there. Family members said he was not feeling well when he arrived in Nashville.

Jason Curry, Fisk University's Dean of the Chapel, picked up Young and a colleague from Young's foundation at a local airport on the day before the speaking engagement. Curry said he received a text early Sunday morning that Young wasn't feeling well and would be unable to speak.
The 86-year-old was initially admitted to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville before transferring to Emory in Atlanta.
Since then, he has been released from the hospital.
