ATLANTA — The Friday crunch appears to be affecting travelers again at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Travelers reported long, snaking lines early Friday at the airport, weaving through the main atrium and back out through baggage claim areas.
It follows on similar scenes in recent weeks, usually on Friday mornings. On Oct. 6, two Fridays ago, TSA predicted a potential record-breaking day for travel as posts on social media showed abnormally long lines at the airport.
The airport's officially posted security times indicate roughly a half-hour wait at the Main and North checkpoints as of around 8 a.m.
Typically the volume has thinned out by the late-morning.
An airport spokesman told 11Alive on Oct. 6 that while passenger volume was heavy that morning, they were able to move travelers through "efficiently and with no major issues."
"We’re advising our passengers to arrive in the airport at least two hours (two and a half during busy periods) prior to their domestic departure time; three hours for international travel," Andrew Gobeil, the airport's senior director for corporate communications and media affairs, said that day.
Parking has also seen a recent crunch at the airport, as the South lot is poised to close next week to make way for construction of a new deck.
