ATLANTA — Officials confirm that a solicitor for the City of Atlanta is on administrative leave after she was arrested for marijuana possession over the weekend.
Authorities arrested Deidre Merriman Aug. 25 in Dooly County, Georgia and charged her with possession of marijuana and speeding.
According to a report from the sheriff's office, a deputy spotted Merriman's car speeding down GA 401 around 9:30 that morning. The deputy pulled Merriman over, and when he walked up to the car, he reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the car.
When the deputy asked for Merriman's information, he noticed her face was quivering and she appeared to be "extremely nervous."
After calling for backup, the deputy asked to search Merriman's car due to probable cause, where he found two rolled blunts inside a cigar pack. She was then placed under arrest.
11Alive reached out to the City of Atlanta for a statement on the issue. They confirmed Merriman has been placed on administrative leave pending internal investigation.
She was issued a $1,256 bond.
