Police: Man falls asleep at gas pump, rolls into food mart entrance after being woken up

The incident happened on Spring St. early Monday morning.

ATLANTA — A man fell asleep at the gas pumps and then rolled through the entrance of a food mart on Monday morning in Midtown Atlanta, police said, after his foot came off the brake when he was woken up by a gas station employee.

The incident happened at a Chevron gas station at 970 Spring St. NW, near the corner of Spring St. and 10th St.

Aerial video showed the car sitting in the entrance of the food mart. It appeared to have rammed into the door and come to a stop.

Police said the driver "demonstrated behavior suggesting he was under the influence" and was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless driving.

Neither the driver nor anyone else was injured, police said.

Photos from the scene showed the damage to the entrance.

Police said the incident happened around 6 a.m. The car was moved by about 7 a.m.
