Atlanta mayor makes leadership changes to his administration

The changes are intended to accelerate the execution and implementation of his Move Atlanta Forward plan.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced several changes to leadership positions in his administration Thursday.

The move comes as he works to accelerate the execution and implementation of his Moving Atlanta Forward plan, according to a news release.

"My Moving Atlanta Forward agenda has achievable action items and we’ve seen that by bringing people together from the business, government, and nonprofit sectors, we can get more done, faster," Dickens said. "That is the charge I am giving to my Administration, and I look forward to working with the members of my team who are stepping into new roles because of their proven leadership."

Dickens thanked the leaders who are transitioning out of their positions.

"No one can run a city alone, and I appreciate the commitment and accomplishments of these fine public servants," he said.

Below is a list of the new appointments that will take place after a transition period specific to each department:

  • LaChandra Butler Burks -- Interim Chief Operating Officer for the City of Atlanta

Burks has served as the deputy chief operating officer for more than three years, working closely with COO Lisa Y. Benjamin -- who has held the title since Dickens took office in 2022. Burks is also the former interim commissioner of the City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks and Recreation. She will begin her new role May 25.

  • Jan Lennon --  Interim General Manager for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Lennon will take on her new interim role on July 1. She currently leads the airport's operations, transportation traffic enforcement and more as the deputy general manager of operations. City officials said she has more than 25 years of experience. The current airport general manager, Balram ‘B’ Bheodari, will help with the transition through the end of next month.

Officials said city leaders will retain a search firm to assist with finding the permanent general manager. Dickens also plans to name a search committee to aid with the process.

  • Al Wiggins Jr. -- Commissioner, Department of Watershed Management for the City of Atlanta

Wiggins, who served as the commissioner of the Department of Public Works, begins the new role effective immediately, the city said. He joined the city in 2021 after holding various government leadership positions over the course of his career. He takes over from Mikita K. Browning, who had been in the role since Oct. 2020 under Former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

  • Kentorri Garmon --  Interim Commissioner, Department of Public Works for the City of Atlanta

Garmon, who has been with the city for four years, will take over Wiggins' former position with the Department of Public Works as the interim commissioner.

  • Peter Aman --  Chief Strategy Officer for the City of Atlanta

Aman will begin this newly created role on May 15. He currently works with the Atlanta Police Department as the chief administrative officer. He was also the chief operating officer with the City of Atlanta for two years, from 2010 through 2011.
