AT&T services resume following phone disruption, company says

Atlanta Police said users were still able to contact their emergency 911 line.

ATLANTA — UPDATE: AT&T said Thursday afternoon that all of its customers impacted by a nationwide service outage have cell service again after hours, without the ability to place calls, send texts or access the internet without wi-fi.

Original story below:

Thankfully, the Atlanta Police Department said users were able to contact their emergency 911 line, even though dispatchers were not able to make outbound calls.

"We have received calls from AT&T customers stating that their cellular phones are stuck in SOS mode,"  APD said.

Earlier this morning, AT&T company put out the following statement:

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored.”

T-Mobile and Verizon users said they were experiencing issues as well, but the user-generated reports on Downdetector between the carriers are much lower than AT&T's.

A spokesperson from T-Mobile responded, stating they were not involved in the outage.

"We did not experience an outage. Our network is operating normally. Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks."
