ATLANTA — Atlanta Pride organizers are hoping the community will pitch in to make the 2024 festival and parade a success.
The organization is Georgia's oldest non-profit agency serving the LGBTQ community, according to its website. And on Oct. 12 and 13, Piedmont Park will be transformed into a sea of people and colors celebrating the community. Organizers said the event typically draws 350,000 people.
In preparation for the event, organizer Steven Igarashi-Ball said volunteers are needed.
“We are the largest free Pride event in the nation and the largest Pride event in the Southeast, and obviously, it takes a lot of people to make that happen," Igarashi-Ball stated.
The team hopes to get at least 400 people to sign on to help out with Pride. Igarashi-Ball also stated that this year's crowd is expected to be even bigger than previous years.
“I think that we will definitely see an increase in that this year. It's an election year, and people are going to want to come out and have their voices heard. We definitely expect to see an increase in our attendance," Igarashi-Ball said.
All are welcome to sign up, but children under 16 will need a parent to accompany them.
“We have volunteer positions that are available for all walks of life and all ages," Igarashi-ball said.
