17-year-old dies dies in Cherokee County crash, sheriff's office says

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A 17-year-old was killed in an accident on Tuesday night in Cherokee County, the sheriff's office said.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old William Sternot of Roswell was driving a Mazda 3 that "left the roadway and struck a tree."

Capt. Jay Baker in the sheriff's office said, "Preliminary indications are that speed was a contributing factor in the accident."

It happened on Earney Road near Silver Fox Run, the sheriff's office said.

"There were no other occupants in the vehicle," a release stated. "The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident."
