2 dead, including young girl, after three separate weekend crashes in Cobb County, police say

A 38-year-old man was killed after hitting the back of tractor-trailer after going a high rate of speed on I-20.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Several people were taken to the hospital and a person died after three separate weekend crashes in Cobb County, according to police

On Friday night, a young girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car in Kennesaw. Police said a 66-year-old man was driving eastbound on Ben King Road when a group of juveniles were walking in the crosswalk. Police said in a Monday update that the girl died on Sunday.

That's when the 66-year-old man's car hit one of the juveniles ejecting the juvenile in a wooded area, police said. The man was later taken into custody and charged with DUI, first degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield to pedestrian.

The deadly crash happened near the Fulton County line on I-20 Sunday just around 2:26 a.m.

Dewayne John, 38, was killed after his car allegedly hit the back of a tractor-trailer at a high rate of speed which was then redirected into a concrete wall.

About an hour later in Marietta, a taxi with three occupants and a pickup truck got into an accident on Austell Road and Pat Mell Road.

The four people involved were taken to the hospital with "minor injuries."

All crashes are still being investigated. Anyone with information on any of the crashes are asked to call 770-499-3987.
