COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Coweta County deputy and two other people are hospitalized following a four-vehicle crash in the middle of a busy intersection on Saturday night, Georgia State Patrol said.

The deputy was driving north on State Route 154 when he was crossing through the intersection at State Route 34 with emergency lights and sirens on. The light at the intersection was red, and the deputy did not yield to traffic crossing the intersection, GSP said.

That's when the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was driving through the intersection with a green light and hit the front passenger side of the deputy's patrol car, troopers said. The impact of the crash caused both the patrol car and the Santa Fe to hit a motorcycle rider and the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, who were stopped in a left turn lane at the intersection.

The deputy, driver of the Santa Fe and the motorcycle rider were all taken to the hospital, where troopers said their injuries were of "unknown severity" at this time.
