GSP: 2 dead when car crashes into concrete barrier, pole following chase

"The pursuit traveled through many city streets, as well as I-75," GSP said.

ATLANTA — A car traveling more than 100 mph crashed following a chase overnight, according to Georgia State Patrol. There were four people in the car and two of them died, they said.

GSP said just before 1:30 a.m., a trooper saw a silver Toyota Camry driving recklessly on Interstate 20 east exiting onto Interstate 75 south. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, however, they said the driver took off.

"The pursuit traveled through many city streets, as well as I-75," GSP said. "The Trooper began to lose contact with the vehicle on Joseph E. Lowery Blvd."

GSP said the car crested the hilltop and saw the car crash. The preliminary investigation determined the driver tried to make a left turn onto Student Movement Boulevard and lost control. The car crashed into a concrete barrier and a light pole.

Atlanta Fire said they were called to respond because two people were trapped. They said the two others were dead at the scene. While units were en route, they said GSP dispatch informed them that the vehicle caught fire.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that 25-year-old Ja'Marrius Rucker and 18-year-old Nadiyah McCants were the two who died in the crash.

The driver and other passenger were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

GSP recovered weapons and illegal narcotics recovered at the scene. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting in the crash investigation. They said charges are pending.
