Water service interruptions restored after crews repair major break, respond to nearby water main

The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management said that water service may temporarily be affected for those in the area.

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Water service was restored on Tuesday for South Fulton residents after crews repaired a 24-inch water man break.

In an afternoon update, the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM) said water service has been restored around Butner Road and Union Road SW.

This comes after DWM said on Tuesday morning that crews were able to repair the 24-inch water main near Butner Road and Union Road but noticed additional work needed to be made on an 8-inch water main nearby. In the update, department officials said the issue would be fixed by the end of the day.

The DWM added that an incident happened on Monday night during a construction project that required crews to relocate a fire hydrant.

The City of South Fulton also said a section of the road was shut down, and drivers were urged to avoid the area after Monday's issue.

South Fulton District 2 Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs previously said on Monday night that due to several water main breaks in Districts 2 and 4, community members had reduced or limited access to clean water. Grumbs stated that those in the areas experiencing interruptions should have been contacted by Atlanta Watershed.

Watershed management said at the time it would provide updates about the repairs as more information becomes available. A water interruption map can also be viewed online
