Woman found dead at Gwinnett County assisted-living facility, husband in custody: police

Authorities said that there appears to be a "domestic-related incident" at the facility located on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Lawrenceville.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An 81-year-old man is behind bars and a 71-year-old woman is dead at a Gwinnett County assisted living facility Tuesday morning, according to police

Authorities said that there appeared to be a "domestic-related incident" at the facility located at 1611 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Lawrenceville near Watercrest Circle around 10 a.m. According to Google Maps, this appears to be the address for the Linwood Estates Gracious Retirement Living. 

In an updated release, detectives said they have charged Richard Hayden with malice murder, aggravated assault and felony murder. The police department said Richard will be taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. 

The victim in this case has been identified by authorities as Grace Hayden, 71, the suspect's wife. Her cause of death will be determined by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office, the police department added.

The retirement facility sent the following statement regarding the incident: 

Linwood Estates Gracious Retirement Living acknowledges an isolated domestic disturbance incident occurred this morning, resulting in the unfortunate passing of one resident. The companion involved has been detained by the Gwinnett County Police Department.

At this time, we have limited information beyond what has been shared by the Gwinnett County Police Department Public Information Office as they continue their investigation. For further details and updates on the incident, we recommend individuals to refer directly to the Police Department.

In the wake of this distressing event, our utmost priority is the well-being of our residents and staff. We are actively providing support and assistance to ensure their emotional welfare during this challenging time.
