Elderly woman who was attacked, set on fire dies

Local News Generic 11Alive

GRANTVILLE, Ga. -- The woman who was attacked and set on fire during an alleged home break-in has died, officials confirm.

The Meriwether County Coroner confirmed with 11Alive that 83-year-old Dorothy Dow died Saturday afternoon around 4:40 at Grady Memorial Hospital's burn unit.

According to police, Dow was sleeping when five suspects broke in and ransacked her home. Police said the suspects then asked the woman for the whereabouts of a family member and when she couldn't provide an answer, they assaulted her.

In a disturbing turn, police said the suspects then poured a flammable liquid on Dow and set her on fire.

Police said the woman was able to put out the flames and contact 911.

Investigators were initially able to link three suspects, Sanquavious Cameron, 17, Justin Grady, 38, and Cortavious Heard, 18, to the crime and arrested them. Later, they arrested two more suspects, Mina Christine Ellery, 17, and Angel Latrice Harmon, 17, both of Newnan.

Now, the coroner say Dow's body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for an autopsy.
