Father killed, 6-year-old boy pulled from water after Lake Hartwell boating accident

The 39-year-old man was on the lake with his 6-year-old son when their vessel was hit.

STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A 39-year-old man on a boating trip with his son died on Lake Hartwell after a boating accident, officials confirm.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday night, in the area of Eastanollee Creek.

The Department of Natural Resources confirmed that Brandon Dean Wilson was on the lake in a johnboat with his 6-year-old son when their vessel was hit by a ski boat.

Mark McKinnon with the DNR confirmed that the boy had on a life jacket at the time and was not hurt. He was pulled from the water by a passenger in the ski boat. Wilson, however, was found dead in the water, later, officials said.

Wilson's body was turned over to the Stephens County Coroner's Office.

An investigation, meanwhile, is ongoing, and is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.
