Fire rips through several businesses in Downtown Blue Ridge

Fire crews were seen working the fire in the area of Danielle's Cafe, which is located at 611 E Main St.

BLUE RIDGE, Ga. — A fire ripped through several businesses in Downtown Blue Ridge on Saturday.

Fire crews were seen working the fire in the area of Danielle's Cafe, which is located at 611 E Main St.

The first started Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. Multiple businesses, including Danielle's, were housed inside the building where the fire broke out.

Officials said crews were able to save a couple of businesses and homes exposed to the initial fire. In total, about seven businesses were lost total, according to Robert Poole with the Fannin County Emergency Services.

He added that it appears the flames originated in Danielle's kitchen; however, investigators are still working to determine the cause.

11Alive obtained photos that show several buildings fully engulfed in flames.

For those visiting the area, like Cory Huntsman, the whole scene was shocking to behold. "It kind of caught me off guard because no one, I mean no one, was yelling fire," Huntsman said of the scene.

He added that he eventually ran to the restaurant and alerted those inside that the roof was on fire.

"At first, they didn't understand what was going on," Huntsman said, noting some store owner's reluctance to evacuate.

We've contacted officials for more information and to see if anyone was hurt.
