Ladder truck ignites blaze inside Spalding County fire station, officials say

The fire broke out early Saturday morning.

GRIFFIN, Ga. — The Spalding County Fire Department (SCFD) is working to restore one of its stations after a ladder truck caught on fire inside the building over the weekend.

According to SCFD officials, on Feb. 10, just before 3 a.m., firefighters at Spalding County Station 6 were alerted to the smell of smoke inside the station. Upon investigation, they discovered a fire truck engulfed in flames in the station bay.

Neighboring stations and agencies responded and helped to contain the fire, preventing injury and further damage.

The fire was determined to be caused by a mechanical malfunction within the ladder truck, which caused it to catch on fire, according to the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Spalding County officials are working to restore the damaged fire station and replace the damaged fire truck, as well as address service coverage in the area.
