Fulton County tax commissioner's office back up and running after cyberattack

Fulton Co. leaders say they are restoring all services bit by bit.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — It's been weeks since several systems in Fulton County were brought down by a cyberattack, and on Friday, leaders announced that the tax commissioner's office had been fully restored.

According to the Fulton County Government, the incident significantly impacted its property tax system. On Friday, Fulton County Tax Commissioner Dr. Arthur E. Ferdinand said the public-facing aspect of his office had been fully restored and that they have moved all of their data onto the cloud to offer more security in the future.

"While this incident was unfortunate, we are going to be in a much better place going forward. Most of our property tax systems are now going to be housed in the cloud in some way or fashion," Dr. Ferdinand said.

Fulton County Commission Chairman Rob Pitts also revealed that the county has transitioned to a new record search site to make third-party background checks available again following complaints from employers and other entities that use the service.
