Child found stabbed to death inside apartment fire in Gwinnett County, police say

Authorities said the call originally came in as an apartment fire.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Police and fire crews are currently on the scene of a homicide involving a child on Springs Lane in Peachtree Corners.

Authorities said the call originally came in as an apartment fire at 3500 The Vine Apartments just before 8 a.m.

When firefighters managed to enter the building, they found a 6-year-old boy unresponsive with multiple stab wounds, according to police. The child's father clarified that the child was 5 years old.

They add that he was transported to a local hospital and passed away there.

Shortly after, officers said they discovered a woman behind the apartment building whose clothes were wet and she was not wearing any shoes. Police said they believe she lived in the same unit as the boy and was taken into custody as a person of interest. However, police said they do not yet know what her relationship is to the child.

At this time, officers also said they do not yet know what role the fire played in the incident.
