Georgia ranks as No. 1 state in the entire US for least happy employees, according to report

The study based the score on factors such as annual pay, quit rates, commute times and more.

ATLANTA — A new study revealed that employees in Georgia tend to be unhappier working here -- more so than in any other state in the country.

The report compiled by human resource technology company SelectSoftware Reviews showed that the Peach State had a happiness score of just 29.6 out of 100, the lowest in the United States. The study based the score on factors such as annual pay, quit rates, workplace injuries, commute times, paid time off laws and weekly working hours.

The bottom 5 ranked out like this:

  1. Georgia: 29.62
  2. Texas: 30.36
  3. Florida: 30.46
  4. South Carolina: 31.65
  5. New York: 31.51

The report stated that Georgia had one of the "least satisfied workforces" and that the state "faces challenges with the worst job satisfaction."

Georgia has the highest quit rate of any state at 3.6%, according to the study. Those who have ever worked in the state know just how bad the morning and afternoon commutes are both in the City of Atlanta and the metro -- another factor working against employees in the state. Folks with jobs in Georgia face an average commute time of 28.7 minutes, one of the longest in the U.S., the study says.

The state of Texas struggles with worker satisfaction due to the fact it deals with an eye-popping 533 deadly workplace injuries per year on average, along with the second-longest average workweek of 43.6 hours -- which is just behind Louisiana.

Alaska ranked atop the charts for having the happiest employees in the nation. Their happiness score was overwhelmingly number one, tracking over 13 points higher than the state right behind them, Rhode Island.

The top 5 ranked out like this:

  1. Alaska: 69.96
  2. Rhode Island: 56.64
  3. North Dakota: 56.40
  4. Colorado: 55.76
  5. Minnesota: 55.26

The statistics that made Alaska better than everyone else, according to the study, was the fact they work an average of 31.1 hours in their workweek, make an average wage of $52,000 per year and have one of the best commute times and lowest quit rates of any state.
