Man pointing gun at Roswell sports bar patrons shot by officer, police say

Callers said an "unruly patron" was pointing a handgun at others.

ROSWELL, Ga. — A man was shot by police after pointing a gun at sports bar patrons and officers in Roswell early Saturday morning.

Roswell Police Department said calls began coming in around 1 a.m. on March 23 from staff and patrons at Mazzy's Sports Bar and Grill, located at 10729 Alpharetta Highway. Callers said an "unruly patron" was pointing a handgun at others.

When officers arrived, the 34-year-old man was just inside the bar's front doors. Roswell Police ordered him to drop his gun, but he did not comply and pointed the gun at them. That's when one Roswell officer shot the suspect.

Police said they began rendering medical aid immediately, and the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the shooting, and more information will be released by its office.
