Milton High students march to local congresswoman's office, demanding gun control

The march was organized by a Milton High School junior.

MILTON, Ga. - A group of local students marched Saturday morning from Milton High School to U.S. Rep. Karen Handel’s office, demanding stricter gun control measures.

The march was organized by Milton High School junior Smera Dhal, who created an online chat group about a week ago in response to the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting.

“Within a few days, we gained over 200 members on the chat, mostly Milton High School students, but some from different schools all around the area, and all activists against gun violence.” Dhal said. “Using our voices as active youth on social media and in-person platforms, we want to bring change about gun reform policies.”

Dhal said the group is marching “for common sense gun legislation such as stricter background checks, raising the age limit on purchasing guns, enforcing a follow-through system regarding tips made to police as well as the FBI over individuals who seen dangerous or a threat to society, and many other points.”
