Family says Georgia college student found safe after recent disappearance

Laura Omotosho's family shared the news Friday.

ATLANTA — A 21-year-old Georgia State University college student has been found safe after she disappeared from her metro Atlanta home last Friday, according to family.

Laura Omotosho's family gave an update on her status just before the holidays.

"Laura has been found safe. Thank you to everyone who spread the word. Please respect the family's privacy at this time," said the family in an update sent to 11Alive.

Her family previously told 11Alive they were concerned about the disappearance because this was "not her character." Family members said she disappeared from her home on Bolton Road just around 1 a.m. last Friday. She left in a grey Toyota Corolla.

Her sister, Lauren, added she was supposed to return back home but never arrived. That's when the family knew something was wrong. Lauren added that the 21-year-old told her mother she wanted to go for a drive and get some fresh air, which was not unusual, but her family began to worry when she stopped responding to text messages hours later. Her family spent Wednesday day driving through Cobb County neighborhoods where she lived.

11Alive has reached out to Atlanta Police to learn more about the case.
