Missouri truck driver killed in wreck on I-75 in Monroe County

The tractor-trailer went down an embankment, into a ditch and overturned, deputies said.

A truck driver was killed in a wreck on I-75 early on Saturday, April 11, 2020 in Monroe Co., Ga., deputies said.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A 49-year-old Missouri man was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed early Saturday morning on Interstate 75 in Monroe County, officials said.

According to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the 18-wheeler, driven by 49-year-old Derriun Taylor of Perryville, Mo., was northbound on I-75 just before 5 a.m. when the crash occurred.

Deputies said it appears the 18-wheeler left the roadway, went down an embankment, into a ditch and overturned. It struck several trees and a fence line before it came to rest, they said.

According to deputies, Taylor was dead when they arrived at the scene.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
