2 seriously hurt after being shot in Downtown Athens during large street brawl, police say

ATHENS, Ga. — A shooting seriously injured two people in Downtown Athens early Sunday morning after a large brawl broke out in the street, police said.

Officers patrolling the downtown area were near the 100 block of West Clayton Street when they heard gunfire erupt. They then responded to the intersection of West Clayton and North Hull Street where police said there was a large brawl in the middle of the street.

The intersection is near Last Resort Grill, FIVE Athens and Tropical Bar.

After they broke up the group, police said they found two people who had been shot in their torsos. EMS came and rushed the victims to a nearby hospital. Police said they are both expected to survive.
