What do I do when the lights go out?

The Director of the East Point Power Department provides residents with some best practices during severe weather

Summer is officially here and so is the weather. Severe weather descended upon the greater metro Atlanta area this past weekend and East Point saw its fair share of it as heavy rains, winds, and thunderstorms left their mark around town.

Several East Point neighborhoods such as Frog Hollow, Semmes Park, Conley Hills, and others experienced blackouts as severe weather downed trees and power lines causing outages that lasted for several hours.

My East Point News spoke with the director of East Point’s Power Department, Shawn Dowe, who provided us with some valuable best practices for residents to follow during bouts of severe weather.

Dowe also recommended that residents download the new SeeClickFix app which provides citizens with an easy-to-use notification system designed to cut down on response and repair times. The SeeClickFix app is available for both iPhone and Android users. You can find out more information about the power department and other utilities on the city’s website
