2 killed, 1 critical after Christmas Eve crash in Lawrenceville

This is what we know.

Authorities say two people died and a third is in critical condition after a Christmas Eve crash.

According to Lawrenceville Police, officers were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to the 200 block of Johnson Road at Grayland Hills Drive - between Lawrenceville Hwy and Five Forks Road - after getting reports of a car that hit a pole.

When they got there, they found two people - 34-year-old Saad Varney of Lawrenceville and 34-year-old Dionte Jordan of Decatur - already deceased from their injuries. A third person was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition.

According to police, Varney was driving his silver Acura west down Johnson Road when he lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting a black Mercedes.

Video from the scene showed the two cars mangled and twisted on the backs of tow trucks. One car had its back half virtually cut off from the rest of it.

The department's Accident Investigation Unit responded to investigate the incident.

Right now, police don't anticipate any charges being filed.
