NORCROSS, Ga. — A man accused of murdering someone at a Gwinnett County hotel has been found at a nearby hospital.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they had arrested 36-year-old Mustafa Powell after being requested to assist Nocross Police in the investigation of a deadly shooting.

According to preliminary information from the GBI, officers were called to the Allround Suites Hotel at 3175 Medlock Bridge Rd. around 1 a.m. There, they found a man that appeared to be shot to death.

But before his death, police believe the victim managed to fire off shots at the man who allegedly killed him. Investigators said Powell managed to escape the scene but ended up at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment of two gunshot wounds. Powell is listed in critical condition according to the GBI.

He now faces a charge of murder in the victim's death. Investigators are still withholding the name of that man, pending notification of family. As for the motive, authorities believe Powell was confronting the victim over an issue in some way related to narcotics.

The victim's body has been taken to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. And while one person has been officially arrested, the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this deadly shooting is asked to call the GBI Atlanta Regional Office at 770-388-5019.
