It's never too late to get back on the horse

There’s an old cowboy saying that goes something like, “If you climb in the saddle, be ready for the ride.” That's why this extreme cowboy is determined to always get back up, again and again, in life, and love.

Sunny Roseman perused the faces of various men on the site.

She had been married previously, and this was the next step. Sunny’s daughter had signed her up for the dating service, so she figured she’d give it a try.

One after the other, the faces start to blend into each other, until they didn’t. One image gave Sunny pause. It was the photo of a man standing in front of an iron-worked image of a team of horses pulling a stagecoach. The man in the photo was Joe Holloway.

It wasn’t exactly Joe’s face that caused Sunny to take notice, although, Joe is a very handsome fellow. It was what was behind Joe that caught Sunny’s eye. It was something she recognized. Something they shared.

Sunny sent Joe their first message.

The two got to know each other over the phone before they met. During the calls, Sunny sowed the seeds of anticipation. She told Joe they had something in common, but refused to reveal the secret until they met.

The two set a date.

Joe arrived to Sunny’s house and immediately begins prodding for an answer. What is the connection the two of them share?

Sunny stood her ground. Joe would have to wait until after dinner.

Hours later, Joe found himself in the same position with the same question.

“Ok," Joe asked. "What do we have in common?”

“Come up to my bedroom and I’ll show you,” Sunny said.

Umm…

Like Sunny, Joe had been previously married. This was his shot to “get back on the horse,” so to speak, and give romance a second chance.

Still, Joe wasn’t prepared for that answer.

Joe followed Sunny to her bedroom. There it was.

Mounted on the wall hung an iron-worked image of a team of horses pulling a stagecoach. It was same image was in the photo Joe used with the dating service. It’s the thing that caught Sunny’s eye.

Sunny had owned the companion piece for over 30 years. Sunny’s was purchased in New Jersey; Joe’s was a gift bought in Germany.

But somehow, over the decades, the companion pieces found each other.

The pair now hang together outside the Holloway's home in Gainesville, Georgia.

Joe and Sunny Holloway will celebrate 24 years of marriage in October.

Over the years, the Holloways followed where the adventure led. From hiking in New Mexico and skiing in Colorado, to cruising parts of Russia and walking the Great Wall of China, the pair did it all.

“Sunny’s sister had a saying that when you wash the last spoon, you’re gonna die,” Joe said.

Basically, what it means is you’re as good as dead if you have nothing left to do.

“I never wash the last spoon,” Sunny added.

They are both nearing 80-years-old now, but you would never know it, especially considering Joe’s choice of hobby.

Extreme Cowboy Racing.

At 79 years old, “Smokin’ Joe” Holloway, is in fact an actual cowboy who competes in real rodeos!
