Man killed in crash involving MARTA bus, Atlanta Police say

Here's what we know.

ATLANTA — An investigation is underway after a man was hit and killed in a crash involving a MARTA bus Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

APD said officers are investigating the crash near 244 Cleveland Ave. NW. That scene is just off the exit ramp of Interstate-75, right before it connects with I-85 through town. Google Maps information shows a bus stop just feet away from the address.

According to Atlanta police, officers were called to the scene for reports of a man getting hit by the MARTA bus just around 5 p.m. When officers got there, officials said the victim was not conscious. He was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene.

Atlanta police said early information appears to show the man stepped into the travel lanes of Cleveland Avenue outside the crosswalk and that's how he was hit.

Images from the scene showed what appeared to be officers checking the rear wheel well of the bus. The bus also appeared to have been evacuated of all passengers.

11Alive reached out to MARTA for more, but the transit authority referred us to the details released from police.

Atlanta police said it now has members of the department's Accident Investigations Unit at the scene to find out more.
