Police: Woman killed in crossfire during shooting at NE Atlanta bar

ATLANTA -- Police are investigating after a woman was found shot in the parking lot of a northeast Atlanta club Saturday morning.

They now believe she was killed after getting caught in crossfire as two groups of men shot at each other.

Police said it all started around 5 a.m. at the Anchor Down Grille & Lounge in the 2500 block of Piedmont Road, near the Lindbergh MARTA station.

"He was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom," one witness said. "[Expletive] was lighting up like the Fourth of July."

The man who wished to remain anonymous said he feared for his life.

Officials with APD have not yet figured out what led up to the shooting, but say the woman, now identified as Taylor Haden, was a patron of the club and was in the parking lot when the shooting broke out. The 25-year-old from Texas later died at Grady Hospital as a result of gunshot wounds to her arm and side.

Sister station KARE in Minnesota later confirmed that the victim was the sister of a state senator there, Jeff Hayden, and a student at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

"It was nasty how he did it," one witness said. "15 shots went loose. I know it was 15."

Investigators still do not have much to go on at this time. They were at the scene after dawn questioning several witnesses to try to come up with descriptions of possible suspects.

"We have some conflicting information right now," one detective on the scene told 11Alive. "A scene in the parking lot and in the street out front."

Police sources tell 11Alive this is not the first time law enforcement has responded to this particular bar. In June, authorities shut down the after-hours club for alleged illegal operations.
