Pursuit turns into deadly crash in Fayetteville, law enforcement says

Two women were taken to the hospital and later died, according to the City of Fayetteville Public Safety.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — A pursuit with police ended in a deadly crash on Sunday afternoon, law enforcement said.

According to the City of Fayetteville Public Safety, shortly before 4 p.m., Fayetteville Police attempted to stop a car with a tag allegedly belonging to another vehicle near N Glynn Street and E Stonewall Ave. The car's driver then allegedly fled from the traffic stop -- initiating a pursuit with police. Law enforcement used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the pursuit before it reached the McDonough Rd intersection and risked endangering others, according to a release.

As a result, the car involved left the roadway and crashed. Law enforcement said there were two women in the car, and they were taken to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries. No one who was not involved in the incident was hit, law enforcement said.

The Georgia State Patrol has been requested to investigate the crash.
